Adopting a Pet
Bringing a dog into your life is a very big decision that requires a lot of thought and planning. Pit Bulls are a very special breed that require a lot of love and attention. In an effort to educate the public as well as potential adoptees and fosters we ask that you please read through our breed info page so that you can be familiar with the history, facts and myths associated with these wonderful dogs.
MAKING a Donation

- Support for those most in need in underserved communities
What we do
Our Services
Rescuing Pets
POSR saves dogs from abuse, neglect, and death at overcrowded shelters and places them in loving homes. We support pet owners in need in our community, and serve as first responders in emergency animal situations and natural disasters. Our focus is not only to rescue and re-home those in need, but to educate and rehabilitate to prevent the cycle from continuing to the best of our ability.
Animal Licensing
The microchipping of dogs is of utmost importance for the well-being and safety of our furry companions. All of our pets are microchipped, linking them to the owners and becomes a lifeline, increasing the chances of a reunion. We encourage all to chip their pets!
Finding Pets a Home
It is our main goal to place our animals in a loving home that has the resources to take care of them for the rest of their lives. We ask a LOT of questions and are extremely careful about who we use as fosters and adopters.
Spay & Neuter
Spay or neutering is the best way to cut down on the number of unwanted animals in the community. These routine medical procedures not only help control pet overpopulation, but they may also prevent medical and behavioral problems from developing, allowing your pet to lead a longer, healthier and happier life.
What Drives Us
Our Mission
Founded in 2001, Pit Of Our Soul’s ultimate goal is to create a world where all companion animals have loving and permanent homes and where no good natured dogs, no matter what their age, are killed in shelters because they are considered to be surplus or un-adoptable.
Get Involved
As an all-volunteer organization, your involvement is the key to our ongoing success. You can help fulfill POSR’s mission of a truly no-kill community for homeless and abandoned dogs in the NY/NJ area.
We have a number of different volunteer opportunities ranging from fully remote roles to in-person opportunities

Pet Adoption Notes
Adopting VS BUying
By choosing to adopt rather than go to a shop or breeder for a specific type of pet, you are caring for a dog that already needs support, instead of bringing another puppy into the world. It’s one of the best ways to help ensure all animals can receive the care they deserve. Good things come to those who wait.
How to Find the Perfect Pet
Is there anything more exciting than welcoming a new addition to your family? We are as delighted as you are when we receive a phone call to schedule an appointment for a new furry family member. While you can’t choose your human family members, you can pick out the perfect pet for your family. Before making such an impactful decision, ask yourself and your family the following questions….
